The first of our 2023 ambassadors is Lils!
Covid and lockdowns were hard, especially mentally for both young people and adults, however, there are definitely some amazing stories to be told from a very difficult time for all.
“Me & Dad started Skillswithlils when I was 7 years old just as the first lockdown kicked in. I always used to see Dad cooking in the kitchen and wanted to join in and learn new skills. We cook various dishes from different chefs and some of our own recipes as well. As we know Covid and lockdowns hit us all very hard and the world became a scary place. This impacted on my mental health as well as my dad’s, but the kitchen was our safe place. A place to have fun, laugh, dance, cook and learn new skills. Having this safe space kept us going throughout the lockdowns and the uncertainty our world was facing.”
This remarkable young lady has become somewhat of a superhero here in Scarborough! Christmas 2022, Lils raised £1332 to provide 14 local families Christmas dinners, with all the trimmings, a hamper and funds to pay for their gas and electric to warm the house and cook on Christmas Day.
“I sold my delicious baking treats to raise money and also did extra jobs to earn extra pounds at Craft Fairs after being invited by a local business called Lilly’s Treasures. I love our community and the people in it, we all need to help each other and be kind.”
A remarkable young lady as I’m sure you’ll agree!
